A new educational program has been developed for the baccalaureate specialty “Information Security” (specialty code: 050615) in accordance with modern requirements.
The progress of each society depends very much on the state of development of the scientific, technical and intellectual potential, and on the educational system of the country. The recent rapid development of the global technological environment has led to a sharp increase in the demand for new professional skills, new areas of knowledge and experience.
Taking into account the experience of developed countries such as Turkey, Germany, Switzerland and the United States in the formation of intellectual potential capable of achieving the strategic goals of state policy related to security of information and cybersecurity by preserving the foundations of progressive experience in the educational system, a new educational program for the specialty “Information Security” of the baccalaureate has been developed.
The new curriculum was developed on the joint initiative of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Security Service, as well as representatives of the country’s leading higher educational institutions and various institutions of state, as well as Azerbaijani specialists working in the world of leading higher education institutions and companies. During the development of the program, the current requirements of the labor market in the public and private sectors, including the “NICE Framework” prepared by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the United States, the “Cybersecurity Guidelines” prepared jointly by the International Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the international sources of the IEEE Computer Society such as “curriculum recommendations” have been reviewed and taken into account.
The new educational program includes professional skills in four modules – preventive protection of information systems, detection of information security incidents, management of information security incidents, planning and application of security solutions. information. Graduates of the new educational program will be able to work in professions corresponding to the latest labor market demand for information security and cybersecurity in the future. In addition to information security, the program provides for the teaching of subjects relevant to the training of personnel in the field of cybersecurity.
Taking into account technological innovations, the program includes new specializations such as “Cloud Security”, “Security of Electronic Devices and IoT”, “Security of Industrial Management Systems” and others. In the first semester of the first year, the teaching of the subject “Basics of information security”, which aims to introduce students to the specialty, to show the links between the subjects taught and professional skills, and to create a broad idea of student qualifications. The subjects “Engineering Ethics”, “Information Security and Legal Aspects of Cybersecurity” also occupied a special place in the curriculum. In addition to the above, “Secure Programming”, “Basics of Penetration Testing”, “Database Security”, etc., in order to meet the need for personnel in the field of software code security in our country. the teaching of these necessary specialty subjects is provided as part of the curriculum.
In the new curriculum, master classes are also planned with the aim of improving relations with labor market subjects, harmonizing the curriculum with current labor market requirements and making students aware of the real issues related to the relevant professional specialty. on experience. Master classes will be held with the participation of highly qualified specialists from the local and foreign labor market.
Considering the fact that there are many innovations in the program, prospects for joint action with AKTA (Association of Cybersecurity Organizations of Azerbaijan) are planned for the organization of coordination work between institutions higher education and labor market subjects, as well as for methodical support based on international experience.
The newly approved training program for the baccalaureate specialty “Information Security” will be implemented from the academic year 2022/2023.
