Hwang of Orange County SC Receives First USL Scholarship

IRVINE, Calif. – USL Championship Club Orange County SC announced Thursday that the first USL scholarship has been awarded to Sunheon Hwang, 15, of Irvine. Hwang becomes the first Bellevue University scholarship recipient under the partnership between USL, its clubs and Bellevue University in the history of the program.

“This is another milestone in our professional journey and we are grateful for the partnership between USL and Bellevue University,” said Oliver Wyss, OCSC President of Soccer Operations. “Sunheon is a special football talent and a top class student and there couldn’t be a player more deserving of the very first OCSC scholarship! We look forward to developing Sunheon in our professional environment while supporting its continuing education! “

For the OCSC, the awarding of the first Bellevue University scholarship represents another first for the club in terms of young footballers and the club’s commitment to providing the best path to professional football in the world.

“It was amazing playing for OCSC 2 and just being in a professional environment as a young player,” said Hwang. “Every day I learn more from the high quality coaches and players around me who push me to always do more. I hope to continue to work with this team and play the game that I love at a high level.

Hwang is a student on the Crean Lutheran High School Honor Roll and currently plays for OCSC2. Prior to joining the club, Hwang played for the OCSC Youth Soccer Network affiliate club, West Coast FC. In May, Hwang was selected to be part of the Orange County SC USL Academy team that competed in the USL Academy Cup tournament in Tampa, Florida.
