Sage Dental Doctors Completes Educational Program in South America

Sage Dental, a leading Dental Services Organization (DSO) committed to providing consistent, high-quality care, as well as non-clinical business and administrative services to affiliated practices, recently participated in a Neodent-sponsored continuing education program , where four Sage dentists working with a team of local providers performed implant surgeries on patients in Curitiba, Brazil.

The event was part of the Sage Academies program, which enables dental professionals from Sage’s more than 80 practices to receive valuable continuing education in a wide range of areas, including implants, overdentures, clear aligners and more.

The program included two days of education and training related to Neodent’s dental implant system and two days of live surgery. Implants from Neodent, which belongs to the Straumann Group, are designed to meet all clinical needs and all bone types with different implant designs, two connection types and two surfaces – NeoPoros and Acqua (hydrophilic) – that improve success rates and treatment outcomes.

The surgeries were performed by Sage dentists Dr Maria Balda, Dr Tony Cruz, Dr Ruben Daboin and Dr Robert Ma. The group was also joined by Sage Dental’s Director of Learning and Development , Natalie Curtis.

“The experience in Brazil was even better than we could have imagined, our team was able to learn and apply replacement techniques that are very unique,” said Dr. Tony Cruz, Senior Dental Director, Sage Dental . “The benefit of what our dental professionals have learned in this program, along with all of our Sage Academies training, increases their skills and familiarity with challenging dental procedures.”

For the Sage team caring for patients on site, the experience was an opportunity to provide care to people who may not have had the financial resources to get high-quality dental care, and some of those treated received multiple implants. Following the dental work performed by the Sage team, patients will receive follow-up care from dentists at the Latin American Institute for Dental Research and Education (ILAPEO), a center for research and continuing education internationally renowned in dental clinical practice.

“Sage Academies provided me with an incredible learning and education process, the surgical part of the program in Brazil was very hands-on,” said Dr Robert Ma. “We had a one-to-one doctor to student ratio where the lead clinician was guiding us on how to place the implant. It was life changing because I was able to get a different perspective on where and how to place the implants – it was amazing.
