Reviews progress on the implementation of NEP-2020, other HED programs
JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor’s Advisor Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today noted that transformative reforms of the higher education system can be created under the National Education Policy (NEP) -2020, in addition an environment for promoting research and innovation in higher education institutions can also be established through this.
The advisor made the comments while chairing a meeting to review the progress of the implementation of the NEP-2020, AICTE-Pragati scholarship program as well as other programs and projects of the Department of Higher Education (HED ) at the Civil Secretariat here today.
The meeting took place in the presence of the HED secretary, Sushma Chauhan; Mission Director, Rashtriya Uchathar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar; Additional Secretary HED, Director of Finance HED and other relevant officials of the department both in person and via video conference.
While reviewing the progress of the implementation of NEP-2020, Councilor Bhatnagar stressed to officials that NEP-2020 will improve higher education in all aspects such as innovation, advancement of research and development. Other related areas and timely interventions are needed so that the objectives of this policy can be met and reflected on the ground.
The adviser stressed that higher education is essential for the development of the country and that through this policy several reforms of the higher education system can be made which will revolutionize college and university education here.
Analyzing the progress of several PMDP projects underway at HED, the advisor was informed that Girls Hostel, GDC Paloura has been inaugurated recently while the buildings of Girls Hostel GDC Rajouri and Girls Hostel, GDC Bhaderwah have been completed. The advisor asked officers that the completed buildings should be handed over immediately while work on other projects should be accelerated so that they can be completed on time.
Likewise, reviewing the progress of RUSA, the advisor was informed that it is a comprehensive program for higher education aimed at achieving access, equity and excellence in colleges and universities. universities. It was also informed that this program helps to fill critical infrastructure gaps in addition to helping to upgrade infrastructure and improvise the teaching and learning environment.
The adviser told the officers that this unique program has various elements to improve the higher education system in our country and that efforts should be made to achieve these goals on the ground. He added that RUSA has a distinct component to bring equity in higher education for socially and educationally backward classes and therefore concrete efforts should be made to ensure that adequate opportunities are provided to these classes.
During the assessment of the progress of the work within the framework of CAPEX, the advisor was informed that industrial competence centers offering skills in different trades such as hotel and restaurant technology, human development and early childhood, travel and tourism and several other innovative professions have been created in several university colleges. to make students in class more skill-oriented.
It was also informed that research and innovation centers, innovation and incubation centers have been established in the graduate colleges to foster among students the growing needs for research and innovation.
Appreciating these initiatives, Councilor Bhatnagar called on HED leaders to provide quality and relevant courses to young people in order to ensure their employability and foster an environment of academic and research excellence among them.
The adviser asked the officials to design an appropriate action plan for the newly established graduate colleges so that the courses can be launched according to the demands of the students who are market-oriented with maximum chances of employability in today’s industrial world. . He also called on relevant officials to make optimal use of cutting-edge technological innovations in teaching and learning to shape the future of students.
On this occasion, the HED secretary made a detailed presentation of the progress made in the different sectors of HED and also informed the advisor of the reforms underway in the department on a regular basis.
