University of Phoenix Hosts Education Equity Webinar on Conscious Consumerism During Holiday Spending Season

PHOENIX–(COMMERCIAL THREAD) – The University of Phoenix will host a webinar on December 16 as part of its educational equity webinar series, titled “Conscious Consumerism: Applying Anti-Oppression Awareness to Year-End Spending. ” The event is part of a public series aimed at educators, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) practitioners, higher education leaders and administrators, employers, goal-oriented organizations nonprofit and government affiliations, as well as faculty, staff, students, and alumni at the University of Phoenix. the globe.

Holiday spending continues to increase year on year and this year is no different, with a 10.5% increase forecast for this holiday season. The December 16 webinar focuses on how individuals can align their vacation spending practices with anti-oppression values.

“This event is meant to be a conversation that will help us define how to buy, give and donate at the end of the year, allowing us to put our dollars where our hearts are,” says Melia Dunn, Founder and Consultant principal at Melia Dunn Consulting – inclusion, embraced.

The webinar will feature Dunn, whose practices of unlearning dominant cultural practices, eliminating the White Savior Complex, and demonstrating an effective alliance are central to his work as an expert in justice, equity, of Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI). Whether it’s designing programs, leading teams in the nonprofit sector, community engagement or facilitating workshops, his career is rooted in the intention of doing good. Dunn shares that along his way, “… courageous voices have drawn my attention to practices and behaviors incompatible with this intention – behaviors that have done more harm than good. Dunn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Voice Communication from Penn State University and received his Inclusion Practitioner Certificate from the Center for Transformation and Change.

Dunn will lead the webinar and help attendees understand the historical practices that continue to preserve systemic oppression, apply anti-oppression awareness tools and strategies to align his spending practices with his values, and examine a range financial choices and their impact on creating the desired change. . The discussion will be co-moderated by Tondra Richardson, MBA / HRM, Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion, and Saray Lopez, Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion, both with the Office of the Equity in Education from the University of Phoenix.
